David Adler House

Armour Estate Gatehouse & Garage
250 North Western Avenue
Lake Forest
2008 Preservation Award
Lake Forest Preservation Foundation

Built by Master Architect David Adler in 1932, the two story gatehouse and five car garage were working parts of this grand estate. The program was to link the two buildings forming a three bedroom residence while converting the garage into a dining room, family room and master suite. The stone motor court is separated from the patio by a hedge and water feature generating enough sound to mask the nearby traffic. The white kitchen with it’s unbroken views to the garden is the central gathering place for the family. The octagon kitchen also serves as the ‘knuckle’ joining the two buildings.
