George's Restaurant

Chicago

This long thin storefront space was divided by a row of structural columns. The program called for a space of 150 seats for dining, drinking and entertainment. The design concept dramatized the colonnade by enlarging the round center columns; thereby, dividing the tiered dining room and stage from the lobby, bar and kitchen. Back lit glass block was employed in the bar dye panel and at the apse ends of the grand room. A wide horizontal band of mirrors with lighting above the bar created a location to display deserts, drinks and specialties to the passing by diners. The curvilinear bar contrasts with the rectangular space forming wonderful spaces to stand and enjoy the entertainment. The menu contained classic Italian specialties and wine.
