Hyatt Ball Room

New Orleans

This 50,000sf ballroom was designed to be divisible in a variety of configurations through the use of movable partitions and flexible lighting controls. Following 15 years of intense use, the finishes had become worn, ceiling lighting not flexible enough for rapid changes and the carpet in need of replacement. A ‘sky’ concept was developed to treat the immense ceiling configuration. A grid of acoustical panels with down lights at the intersections were suspended vertically from the existing structure solving the sound issues and making the framing accessible for quick event revisions. Contrasting this grid of panels a pattern of freeform clouds were formed from rope-lights to create a more playful and energetic atmosphere. New entries and custom carpet completed the total renovation.
